In March, ACB audiences saw just how far Balanchine could stretch the ballet vocabulary with the presentation of two highly contrasting works: Concerto Barocco and La Source.

Get ready for him to stretch it even further. Balanchine loved America, his adopted home. He invented American ballet — and when he did ballet on American subjects, the result was always "...pure, unmitigated, uncut joy.” (Robert Sealy, Ballet Review). In Who Cares? you'll see the sharp moves and smooth aplomb of Fred Astaire: in Stars and Stripes the high kicks of American drill teams; in Western Symphony the sly humor of American westerns; and a finale that brings down the house.
