ACB takes you 2,500 miles behind
the scenes

…for unparalleled access to arts, artists, and experiences unavailable anywhere else. It starts with a kickoff dinner in the city with ACB's Artistic Director and dancers.

As the trip unfolds, we'll go inside the studio of renowned fashion photographer Victor Demarchelier as he creates ACB's Season IX images -- and then takes your portrait. We'll drink mezcal with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Charles Wuorinen in his NYC home and hear him discuss his newest score for ACB. We'll also watch Balanchine's protégé Suki Schorer teach a private class at School of American Ballet and talk with her afterwards. And, we'll attend New York City Ballet's performance of three Balanchine classics, including the incomparable La Valse.

If you want to learn how ballet works, you’ll be unlikely to find a way that is more entertaining, dynamic, and illuminating than this.

Dancing School uses an approach rarely, if ever, seen – dance in comparative performance. Multiple dancers attempt the same, short, solo dance, and ACB’s Artistic Director compares them, movement by movement, in real time, articulating for the audience their strengths, weaknesses, and differences in expression. There is no faster or more enlightening way to understand how ballet technique and artistic expression in dance function, and to see further into choreography and the art form itself.

Followed by a reception with the artists and live music.

Past Conversations have included LA Times investigative journalist Jeffrey Fleishman on building a ballet, actress Jane Kaczmarek on the audition process, and painter Kenton Nelson on the creative process.
